I've raised £300 to go towards taking mum on a family holiday this year with all her grandchildren & day trips to places shes always wanted to go.

In early January of this year my mum was taken in to hospital. After many tests and scans and a long spout at Frimley Park she was told she had cancer. They couldn't detect which cancer it was at this stage and we were told it was CUP (Cancer of the unknown primary). She then had further scans and a long wait to find out she would be receiving a type of Chemotherapy that would target all areas of the body. 6 weeks after this we received a phone call to say that a specialist had done more in depth tests and they had found the primary, a rare Cancer called Cholangiocarcinoma, cancer of the Bile Duct in the Liver.
Cholangiocarcinoma presents late in its course, is difficult to diagnose accurately and early, and most cases cannot be cured. However, there are several treatment options available. Clearly there is a great need for ongoing research to find out the causes of this disease so doctors can develop better diagnostic tests and more effective treatments.
