Story

Freddie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in January 2018 at the age of just 4 years old. He is currently in the maintenance stage of his treatment.
Throughout the last few years Freddies’ body has been through so much due to the high dosage of chemotherapy he has been having which, in turn, has caused a number of side effects and long term health issues for him. Freddie is currently under going tests for liver disease and other health issues which utlimately he will have to live with for the rest of his life.
Freddie has recently been diagnosed with perthes disease which is when the ball-shaped head of the thighbone (femoral head) loses its blood supply. As a result, the head of the thigh bone collapses (bone death). This has got pass the stage of being repaired and as such Freddie will require a hip replacement once he gets a little bit older. The implications of this disease is on Freddie‘s mobility which is now very restricted.
Freddie is in pain everyday which has to be controled with slow release morphine and top ups of Orel morphine throughout the day. Being on his feet so much Freddie gets extremely tired and needs help and support from his teachers and friends while at moving about at school.
Freddie loves going to school and really enjoys learning and playing with his friends. The headmaster and teachers are so supportive and caring and have given Freddie so much care and support over the last few years. We really couldn’t ask for a better school for him to be a pupil at. However, due to Freddie’s mobility issues and the schools’ layout the school is not fully accesible for Freddie.
For Freddie to continue going to Hanbury First school we need your help and support to obtain the required funding to create full access for Freddie within the school premises. This involves structural changes at the school which includes the removal of steps and creation of ramps amongst other accessibility changes which will enable Freddie wheelchair access and to move around safely. We have tried so hard to get funding for these changes however, to no great avail.
The last thing we want to do is have to remove Freddie from the school and people which he loves so much. Going to school is one of the main things that keeps Freddie going and makes him feel like a normal child.
All we want is our little boy to be happy and to be safe in his school environment like the rest of the children.
Please help us.
