Story
Art can be a powerful tool for change. The Syrian conflict was started by revolutionary graffiti painted on the walls by 15-year-old Bashir Abazid and his friends in the city of Deraa.
Syrian security forces made an example of him and his friends, detaining them and torturing them for more than a month.
The news of the detention and torture of the children shocked the country and is now widely considered one of the main events that sparked the Syrian uprising. Shortly after the incident, street artists all over the region started painting the walls of their cities with similar slogans.
We are raising funds for a project to bring together Syrian artists with local artists to create scenes depicting messages of the Syrian conflict to help raise awareness.
The money will be used to buy art supplies and help the artists create graffiti and murals in the Syrian community of Manchester's center.
As well as raise awareness the aim is to get the community involved and learn about how to use art to create change.
