During February half term, Mr Graham, Mr McEwan, Revd Prior and Mr Sarsfield (with a couple of friends) are going to attempt the equivalent of a Gold DofE expedition in the Cambrian mountains.

What are we doing?

Over 4 days, we will walk over 72km and climb more than 2,400m whilst carrying everything we need to survive. Food will be carried with us, water sourced from streams and rivers, and we’ll be sleeping in tents. Our toilet will be a trowel! Average temperatures are 6°C in the daytime, 1°C overnight (like being inside your fridge), and it rains on average 2 days out of 3 during February.

Why are we doing it?

For lots of reasons: there’s an element of solidarity with the 26 students doing their Gold DofE expeditions for real this year, it’s good training for us in supporting those expeditions, we want to raise awareness of the DofE programme at Freemen’s, and it should be good “fun”! We also hope that, in recognition of our efforts, some may be inspired to make a donation to the school’s bursary fund.
