Help Us Preserve the History and Beauty of Stoney Royd Cemetery, Halifax
Nestled in the heart of Halifax, Stoney Royd Cemetery is more than a resting place — it’s a place of stories, memories, and local heritage. Since its opening in the 19th century, it has been the final home to generations of local families, servicemen and women, and members of our community whose lives shaped the town we know today.
Over the years, time and weather have taken their toll. Headstones have shifted, inscriptions have faded, and paths have grown uneven. But here, history matters — and we refuse to let it slip away.
The Friends of Stoney Royd Cemetery Halifax is a small but dedicated group of volunteers who give their time to care for the grounds, record the history, and ensure the cemetery remains a safe, welcoming, and respectful place for visitors. We organise clean-up days, tend to graves, research family histories, and work to protect the wildlife that calls this green space home.
We are now asking for your help. Funds raised will go towards:
Restoring and repairing damaged memorials
Improving access and pathways for visitors of all ages and abilities
Preserving historical records and creating information boards to share the cemetery’s rich history
Planting trees, flowers, and shrubs to support local biodiversity
Purchasing tools and safety equipment for our volunteers
Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. By contributing, you are helping to protect not just the beauty of the cemetery, but the history of Halifax itself. You’ll be ensuring that families can continue to visit loved ones in a place that is cared for with dignity, respect, and pride.
If you can, please give today — and help us keep the stories of Stoney Royd alive for generations to come.
Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your belief that history deserves to be preserved.
