As Cheshire East have now gone live with their 'updated' version of the Spillway works at Poynton pool - which STILL INVOLVES THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR TREES - we need to raise money quickly in order to instigate legal proceedings .

Thank you for all the donations so far. These have been used to produce campaign material and to cover the costs of printing and distribution as well as general expenses.

Cheshire East Council have submitted their planning application (which is very similar to the original one submitted in October 2013).

THIS STILL INVOLVES DESTRUCTION OF OUR TREES .

FoPP has created a credible and viable alternative which will protect the trees and wildlife within for years to come, which has been accepted as viable by Cheshire East Council , WHICH ONLY INVOLVES REMOVAL OF ONE TREE STUMP.

We are now preparing for the next push which includes legal fees and possibly ending in a judicial review. We are prepared to fight all the way to stop the felling of 78 trees and the cutting back of 49 other - mounting a legal challenge if necessary. This could cost more than £50,000

Having met our initial fundraising target for campaigning material, and following the decision to carry the proposal forward to the planning application stage, we have changed the scope of our crowdfunding.

We will reach a stage in the planning application process where a judicial review can be lodged, we need to be in a position to move quickly at this stage. A such we are now crowdfunding to raise money for professional legal support.

So far the support has been amazing - please share this page far and wide as we need as much support and publicity to stop CEC cutting down the trees and ruining the landscape of Poynton pool forever.

Please support our crowdfunding campaign to finance our legal challenge if it comes to it. If the money is not needed we will spend it on local environmental projects, which might include Poynton Pool.

Background

Poynton Park and Pool is a highly accessible and valuable community asset, enabling residents and people further afield to enjoy the nature it provides.

We must act now to protect this area, as Cheshire East Council is planning to mitigate a 1:10000 year flood risk by removing over 80 trees along the west bank. We believe there are other, more environmentally friendly options, that have not been considered.

This area must be protected as it provides highly important habitats for at least 66 species with protections, including at least 15 Red-list species. The Pool is designated as a Site of Biological importance; it is designated for its woodland, marginal/emergent/inundation vegetation and its ornithological interest. The pool has a good mix of habitat along its banks supporting a wide variety of plant and tree species.

In 2024 we registered as a limited company so that we can mount a legal challenge against the planning application for the spillway improvement works at Poynton Pool if necessary, without personal liability for the legal costs
