Story

Hello!

This Just Giving page has been set up to support the recently opened Dorset Falconry Park to get through what is both an exceptional and extremely a difficult time for all businesses. Martin Ballam and his wife Tara opened the doors to Dorset’s first Bird of Prey park in June 2019. The project was 11 years in the planning and is situated on a 7-acre site at Lewell Mill Lane, just outside Dorchester. The park is on the site of an old nursery and the aviaries are dotted around between mature trees. The flying display area has wildlife belts surrounding the main arena, making it a real haven for local birds and mammals. A true labour of love for the Ballam family, with three generations actively involved in the running of this unique attraction.

The Coronavirus pandemic and subsequent self-isolating requirement means that all the flying displays and events booked throughout Dorset and further afield for the 2020 season have been cancelled and the Park is closed to visitors for the foreseeable future.

This means their income has ceased.

With its new Zoo status, it is imperative that life carries on as normal with the daily feeding, flying and maintenance routines as the welfare of the birds remains paramount. They work full-time to ensure the wellbeing of well over a hundred native and endangered birds of prey.

Some of you reading this may have already visited and seen first-hand the wonderful educational and conservation work on site. As 'Friends of Dorset Falconry', we wanted to start a fund to help them with the costs of feeding the birds with the rich and varied diet they deserve for the next month, and possibly beyond, until the doors are open again.

We are hoping to raise £1000 and any donation you can make would be gratefully received.

You can also show your support by adopting a bird and further details can be found on their website www.dorsetfalconrypark.co.uk or contact at enquiries@xtremefalconry.co.uk

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and the Dorset Falconry Park looks forward to welcoming you soon.
