Our current fundraising project:

Help the super talented Screaming Kicks Big Band, a Hot House youth Jazz ensemble to make their 2018 tour of North America #coast2coast an amazing music experience .

Their tour programme consists of travelling to Boston, New Orleans and San Francisco for inspirational concerts and professional workshops at Berklee College of Music and the University of New Orleans, as well as experiencing other diverse cultures and a wide range of musical and life experiences. The funds would help overcome the instrument excess baggage costs incurred from the flights between the major cities and general tour costs such as local equipment hire and a fantastic range of professional workshops, which would help make their 2018 tour so special.

The Screaming Kicks Big Band has 24 talented, committed and hardworking musicians with 3 lead vocal singers playing a range of jazz, swing and world music.

Who are Hot House ….

• Hot House consists of a variety of bands involving over 500 students of varying ages and abilities in the Midlands (mainly from Derbyshire and Staffordshire).

• It provides high quality music education with a holistic approach, teaching children music while encouraging their social and personal development; this is particularly important now that music is all but disappearing from mainstream schools.

• Older and more experienced Hot House students are encouraged to “mentor” participants in younger bands, which benefits all and develops a team and Hot House family spirit.

• Hot House provides wide-ranging opportunities including workshops with guest artists, international tours, internships and professional studio recordings.

• For those wishing to pursue a career in music, Hot House supports students for entry to different universities and various music colleges such as The Royal Academy of Music, Trinity College London and The Birmingham Conservatoire.

• Hot House is proud to have an ongoing culture of learning, where band alumni who are now professional musicians are happy to return to run workshops and perform with the bands.

FOHH is raising funds for:

1. Tours – help with travel costs (excess baggage charges, transfers etc), rental of rehearsal space in the destination(s), fees for professional musicians, rental of local equipment (pa system, speakers, amps, drum kit etc).

2. Local specialist workshops – venue hire and costs to engage professional musicians (many of whom are former Hot House alumni) to run free-of-charge specialist workshops for all at Hot House, often including a public performance at an end-of-workshop concert.

3. Production of cds – provide funds towards the professional recordings and CD production for use by students who are applying to overseas Universities to study jazz. Sale of the CDs will also be used to further fundraise to support additional activities, such as band promotion and international tours.

4. Equipment – support the cost of specialist equipment (instrument cases for travel, music, stands).

5. Bursary – we are investigating the long term possibility of developing a bursary fund to assist individual students from lower income households.
