Story

We're raising funds to support frontline healthcare staff so they can continue to support others ...

At the end of March, professional therapist Helen Mantell contacted her colleague Wendy Power-Stoten to ask her to help a family member who was struggling with stress as a result of working on a Covid-19 Intensive Care Unit.

At the same time they were both approached by more and more frontline NHS staff who were experiencing debilitating stress, trauma and anxiety as a result of the Covid crisis.

Early signs of traumatic stress were emerging and they knew they had to do something. They set up a pilot working with frontline NHS professionals and the results were phenomenal.

During that pilot, 100% of the professionals they worked with reported a significant reduction in stress and an improvement in overall emotional wellbeing. Some even returned to work where, before, the levels of stress and anxiety they were understandably experiencing made that impossible.

Helen and Wendy knew they had to roll this service out to as many frontline healthcare professionals as possible and Frontline Assistance for Stress and Trauma (FAST) was created.

Since that time, FAST has grown and there are now around 40 qualified and experienced Emotional Freedom Technique practitioners registered with the organisation. On the 19th May, we extended our service to include all healthcare professionals, both NHS and private sector.

Rather than going away. the level of stress and trauma experienced by frontline staff is going to increase as the situation unfolds. It's predicted that the long term effects will hit hardest after the crisis is over. This is the time when larger numbers will begin to show signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The risks to mental health are very real and we need to prepare now. This is where you come in.

If everyone who saw this appeal donated just the equivalent of a Starbucks we'd soon have enough to fund FAST's operations costs for many months to come.

Just think what a difference that would make!

Every pound you can give will make a difference. If you're not able to donate at the moment, could you help by sharing our campaign? We'd be really grateful.

We have big ambitions for FAST.

We have just organised a steering committee of frontline, medical and mental health professionals who will offer guidance and vote on any decisions about the direction we take the organisation in. We intend to formally register as a non-profit and we are in the process of researching which structure will work the best for FAST and the healthcare professionals we serve.

Any money we raise over and above our target will help fund this vision.

We're so grateful for your support that thank you doesn't seem enough but we'll say it anyway. From all the team - thank you!

Thanks to our generous supporters, we're able to extend our reach even further. Part of the money we've raised through this campaign has gone towards ordering 1000 of these posters which will go up in staff rooms of healthcare practices across the UK. The more people who know about us, the more we can help. This will go a long way towards that. Thank you again for your continued support.

Hello everyone, We've had some reports to say our website's not loading properly. We've been onto the technical team and we know what the problem is. They're working on it but it could be up to forty-eight hours before it's back up and running. If you need to get in touch with us over the weekend, or want to access support, please contact us via messenger and we'll talk you through the next steps. Thank you for your patience and understanding! https://www.facebook.com/FrontlineAssitanceStressTrauma

The wonderful Polperro Fishermen's Choir got together virtually to perform this version of Harry's Song for Cornwall. All proceeds from any donations made will go directly to Frontline Assistance for Stress & Trauma, to help us support frontline UK healthcare and emergency workers. Big thanks go to both the choir and Kirsten Hintner for her hard work producing the video and to all our supporters who've shared and made donations so far. FAST gets a mention at the end of the video so make sure you don't miss it!
