I feel lucky to be able to afford the weekly food shop, but many families can’t (especially with the current cost of living crisis), so long story short, in autumn 2021, I collected tons of unwanted apples in people’s gardens and orchards and turned them into apple juice, sold them locally and raised over £6,000. I wanted to turn this money into fruit and vegetable vouchers that families can use on a weekly basis via an independent grocer and started this December 2022.

This fruit and veg scheme is currently happening in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, UK. Families (who are on universal credit) can go to the grocer’s, R Harris & Sons, who have a stall every Tuesday and Saturday and claim their weekly £10 worth of fruit and veg.

I am working with Leighton Buzzard Children’s Centre who are of being great help in finding me these families that need that little extra support.

This money I have raised will soon run out and I don't want that! I want to offer this scheme to as many families that need it, so am forward planning to create a healthy pot of cash that can keep this project going indefinitely.
