I'm raising £3200 to give deprived and orphaned young school children a safe hygienic toilet block

Story

Firstly, let's switch I'm to we ...

Why are WE raising money?

On behalf of Ugandan nursery and primary school, Fruitful Standard Institute of Education, we've launched a BRIGHTER FUTURE BRICKS fundraising initiative to help provide the money URGENTLY needed for a safe, hygienic and fully equipped toilet block for the children.

Every child deserves dignity... to pee and poo in privacy without the risk of severe diarrhoea, disease or even death.

Currently the little children of Fruitful are using latrine holes dug in the ground, in a makeshift building constructed from corrugated iron, sticks and mud, often in extremely high temperatures with very limited resources for hygiene and cleanliness. This attracts a multitude of disease carrying insects and vermin, putting the children at great risk every single day.

Why don't the government help, you might wonder? Well, we've tried reaching out to them, along with charities who focus on children and sanitation, only to be met with excuses or silence. That's why we're asking for your help.

Quick Question:

Have you ever visited a public toilet in a pub, at a festival, or on your travels, and it was so revolting that you were unable to use it?

Now imagine this lack of hygiene ten times worse and being the only option available to you or the children in your family, with each toilet visit increasing the risk of contracting deadly diseases like malaria, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, polio, or hepatitis A.

Never mind the stench!

33 children are dying daily

According to Dr. Atwine, Uganda's Ministry Of Health 2024 "Diarrhoea, one of the top three childhood killer diseases in the country, claims the lives of 33 children daily, with 90% of cases directly attributed to inadequate water, poor sanitation, and unhygienic practices.”

Due to these horrific statistics and the school’s current unhygienic toilet condition …

THIS BUY A BRICK, LIFE SAVING FUNDRAISER NEEDS YOUR HELP TODAY!

It requires a massive team effort and we'd love you to be part with as little or as much involvement as you choose and for less than a takeaway coffee.

The beautiful children of Fruitful School captured my heart four years ago, during the strange period of Covid, and I was so moved I took a leap of faith to help them.

I started by paying for an urgent mains water supply to the school from my personal savings, then further helped them buy a banana plantation, build new classrooms and equip the school, up until mid pregnancy.

It brought far more joy than new items for the wardrobe and the Director Muhumuza’s continued display of hard work, honesty and appreciation made me more and more determined to help make the school a safe, enjoyable, learning environment.

Where and when will the toilet block be built?

Work will start as soon as possible, as every day counts!

Muhumuza has already hired labourers to dig a huge hole in the school grounds to create a cesspit, and as more funds become available the work will progress.

The new toilet block will have 6 flushing toilet cisterns, 2 urinals and 2 sinks, connected to the main water supply which we fitted back in 2021. It will be built in the grounds as a separate building to the main school.

The Fruitful fundraiser website details the estimated figures provided for the materials and labour required to build and maintain the toilet block for 2024.

This project will have full transparency, as trust is essential for all project leaders, volunteers, supporters and school staff involved.

Who are the team?

There are many involved for the fundraiser support and toilet block build but the project's two key facilitators are:

Muhumuza Prosper (Muhu) - Fruitful Founder, Director and Voluntary Toilet Block Project Manager. Also a religious leader for Kabale's local community and grateful father of 3. Photo with Fruitful kids 2020 post covid closure..

As the Director of Fruitful, Muhu is dedicated to providing quality education and care to orphaned and needy children in Kabale, Uganda. With a passion for empowering young minds, he oversees the daily operations of the school, ensuring a nurturing environment that fosters academic excellence, creativity, and character development.

"When I first donated to Fruitful back in 2020 I never for a moment thought I'd help build new classrooms or help repair and expand the land but I found so much joy in their show of gratitude and growth that I kept supporting and 4 years later, I'm here hoping that you will help and become a part of this too."

I’ve created this Just Giving page on behalf of Fruitful school, as Uganda are not yet included within their approved countries. Every penny of your donations will be sent to Fruitful school, with full transparency.

What is the plan of action with the project?

Sharing this fundraiser best we can, then...

At each £250 milestone the funds will be passed on to Fruitful school.

Thankfully Just Giving allows for funds to be transferred mid-way through a fundraiser, therefore Fruitful school can order a delivery of sand and stone the moment the first BRIGHTER FUTURE BRICKS transfer arrives.

A detailed monthly update and images will be added to this fundraiser page, plus on the school website. Plus, feel free to reach out if you’d like to speak in person, connect to the school, visit the school, or to receive email updates.

Additional funds raised will be used for the toilet block maintenance.

If you wish to make a large donation, after the toilet block, or near to completion, feel free to get in touch to let us know if you’d like it to go towards an additional classroom, security wall, playground expansion, or tree planting.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

It's as simple as choosing a life instead of a takeaway tea or coffee.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving and they'll never send unwanted emails.

Once you kindly donate, the money will be transferred to Fruitful and we will update Just Giving, plus the main website, each month to show the progress.

"Webare munonga" Thank you so much

From all the (current and future) children of Fruitful, Kabale

Thank you also to the amazing voluntary toilet block website builder, website designer, plus Alex, Sarah, Alison and Martin for your valuable input. Xx
