Story
In October last year, my friend Jack was given a life changing diagnosis. He was diagnosed with a rare cancer - a type of Soft Tissue Sarcoma. He noticed a lump on his knee whilst on his honeymoon with his beautiful wife Rachel, that had begun to grow quickly and become painful. In November, he started his first cycle of chemotherapy under the care of the Sarcoma team at UCLH.
When he decided that he wanted to raise £20,000 for Sarcoma research, I sent a text to my friend Tibs, the biggest adrenaline junky I know, to ask if he would be willing to jump out of a plane with me to help Jack reach his target.
So, on Friday 2nd August, Tibs and I will be completing a skydive from 12,000ft (weather-permitting) in Kent, to try and contribute £2,000 towards Jack's target. This is just a small contribution to all of the amazing events he is planning over the course of this year (you can find out more about the incredible things he's up to on the instagram page below).
There is currently no effective treatment for translocation related Sarcomas, and Jack's own care is focused on extension of life and controlling the spread of this aggressive cancer. However, Jack, being the inspiration that he is, decided to establish Transcend Sarcoma to help raise funds and awareness, where all monies raised will be allocated to research projects to understand how translocation mutations develop in order to provide better outcomes for people impacted by this type of cancer. Transcend will work directly with the pathology and oncology specialists in the department Jack is currently being treated in to ensure all funds raised will have the maximum possible impact.
