Story
Kellie is a colleague of ours at North West Ambulance Service and this week has been given some awful news. She has already fought breast cancer once before and thankfully won that fight, however due to covid19 and hospital restrictions, her recent check up was cancelled. Unfortunately, this week, Kellie has had the dreaded news that the cancer has returned, and furthermore, it has spread to another part of her body.
Kellie is currently under private health insurance through her partner's work. This is funding part of the treatment at the moment, but unfortunately to add to the stress of whats going on at the minute, her partner has been told that in January she is being made redundant, therefore, Kellie would have to continue this policy privately which would be difficult as the premiums will be very high due to her battling breast cancer before.
Kellie has been strongly advised by her oncologist to fund this private healthcare herself as the NHS only fund part of the chemotherapy medication, and if she doesnt get both of them, then the chance of a full recovery is unlikely. Kellie and her partner, Anna, have been discussing selling their house to raise the 10-15k required to fund this treatment.
From now, Kellie will be medically stood down from work, and I think its fair to say, worrying about the financial side of things when being faced with cancer again isn't something that anybody should have to be dealing with.
As her work colleague and friends, I want to do anything we can to help her to raise those funds. With lockdown it will be hard to fully arrange a sponsored event in a large group, but lets pull together and see what we can do for Kellie, and also Anna, in these testing times
Thank you 💚💚
