    Story

Philippa, who turns three years old in August was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in March 2016.

Currently undertaking chemotherapy over the next two years, coupled with invasive investigations and other medical treatment regimens at the Newcastle R.V.I, Great North Children's Hospital.

The treatments pose risks with damaging effects on Philippa's body as well as altering her psychological state of mind.

Staff with specialist nurses and consultants overseeing her care have explained to family that trying to keep a normal lifestyle within the circumstances (due to the treatment reducing her immune system) will help Philippa's natural development in life to progress. This creates its own challenges and restrictions, such as avoiding mixing socially within general public gatherings, for example; playgrounds; toddler groups; leisure centres; swimming pools or basically anywhere that the possibility of catching an illness or viral infection is increased.

Early fundraising events hosted by family, friends and Redlands Nursery with public support has already helped towards providing a safe outdoor play space at home since her diagnosis, as well as giving charity money raised to 'The Sick Children's Trust', that provides a home away from home for family's and the 'Children's Cancer Trust', which provides funding to the RVI children's oncology unit (Ward 4) enabling them to provide the dedicated playroom with toys, art and craft supplies etc. as well as gifts or rewards for the bravery to the children undergoing cancer treatments across the ward.

Throughout the course of her treatment the aim is to host several more fundraising events for Philippa.
Charitable donations received will be used to help improve and maintain a good quality of life as her needs develop.
