Story

In February 2017 Martin Gallier lost his life to Suicide. Suicide... The biggest killer of middle aged men in the U.K.

When a life is lost to Suicide, a million questions are left in the void. The main question for many is “Could this have been prevented?”. Martin’s eldest daughter Jess truly believed that with more accessible training to both individuals and organisations lives could be saved.

Whilst searching for Suicide Prevention training it became glaringly obvious to Jess that training in the North West was sparse. Why? We have suicides here too! In fact certain local authorities in Merseyside carried a rate of 13.7 Suicides per 100,000 in 2015 which is significantly higher than the national rate of 10.1.

18 months on, Jess vowed to set up her own charity, in her Father’s memory, making Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training easily accessible for organisations and individuals.

“Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 16 or older can learn and use the ASIST model.”

This means that once qualified, Jess and her right hand lady Claire, will be able to deliver this life saving training in secondary schools, colleges and companies across the North West and Isle Of Man. And that's where YOU come in!

Jess and Claire need your help funding this mammoth goal and the sooner that they can raise £5,035, the sooner they can start spreading these crucial lifesaving skills across your local community. £5035 needs to be raised for Jess and Claire to undertake the five day train to train qualification allowing them to teach these vital skills. Wouldn't it be great if they could start saving lives in 2018?!

It‘s time to get proactive about Suicide, and this is where we’re going to start. So.... If you can spare a few bob (no matter how small) then PLEASE donate. If you can spare your time PLEASE organise a fundraising activity or event. And if you can offer corporate sponsorship then PLEASE do it! Suicide does not discriminate.
