Story
Gareth Teifi has been selected to represent Scouts Cymru as part of the UK contingent at the 24th World Scouts Jamboree. The selection process involved being chosen by his application form and then attending a selection weekend in Brecon with scouts from the whole of Wales.
The Jamboree will take place on 22nd July – 2nd August 2019 at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA. As well as attending the Jamboree there will be a Big City Experience in either New York or Washington and also a HoHo (Home Hospitality stay) in either North America or Canada where the scouts will experience and gain knowledge and understanding of everyday life in North America or Canada. At the Jamboree is a Cultural Experience Day where Gareth is looking forward to sharing his Welsh heritage, language and traditions with scouts from all over the world. The event is being hosted by the Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and Scouts of Mexico. It will be the largest ever event delivered by Scouting worldwide and 45,000 young people and adult volunteers are expected to attend from over 150 countries.
To attend the Jamboree there is a fee of £3495. As part of the experience Gareth is encouraged to come up with ideas to help fund-raise for the trip. This includes activities such as saving birthday and Christmas money, bag packing, cake sales, car boots sales and selling on eBay. Gareth has chosen to undertake a number of challenges that he is really passionate about. Gareth has researched lots of different walks and decided that he would really like to climb the Three Welsh Peaks - Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan. These hikes will take place one weekend in July or August.
Please help sponsor Gareth and help him on his way to a once in a lifetime experience.
