Weʼve raised £125 to help the Cardio Unit at Watford General due to the fantastic care I received after a heart attack in March 2016. They gave me back my life.

    Story

I've already raised over £600 for the Cardiology Unit, but the crowdfunding page closed automatically after 120 days. This is part 2 for anyone who would still like to donate.

I’m trying to raise at least £400 for the Watford General Hospital Cardiology Unit.

In March this year I suffered a, (thankfully minor), heart attack. Luckily I was treated very quickly at the excellent Cardiology Unit at Watford General Hospital. After a 5 day stay I was fitted with a stent to clear a blocked artery and have been recovering ever since. The treatment and care I received, (and am still receiving), was so good that I felt I had to give something in return for the life that they’ve given back to me.

Oliver and Georgia’s Judo club, Iruka Judokwai in Watford, raise money for a different charity every year. Carol who runs the club with her husband Barry has also been a regular visitor to the Cardiology Unit recently due to her heart condition called Atrial Fibrillation. Like me, she has had her life changed for the better by the Cardiology Unit. Carol and Barry decided that this year the club would raise money for the Cardiology Unit and asked if I would like to be part of the campaign due to my own experience. Obviously this is a great idea so we’re going to combine our efforts and see how much we can raise between us.

I’ve always felt that to raise money you should make the effort in return, so for every £1 you donate I will RUN a mile. For every £1 Carol raises I will CYCLE a mile, (she’s already well over the £500 mark)! Not only is this a fair return for your hard earned cash but will get me super fit and raise money for the Cardiology Unit, everyone’s a winner.

As you may have already seen above this is part 2. The first crowdfunding page automatically expired after 120 days but in that time I raised over £600. Thank You everyone so far for your fantastic support. Since starting this I have now covered 722 miles on the bike, all of it on the canal paths to and from Stockley Park, (my commute). One the weather turns, (so far I've been outrageously lucky), then I'll start the running. Unfortunately the 15 year old Trek bike had to be retired in September, but the shiny new one is coping admirably.

I'm Garry, I'm 52 and have a dodgy ticker. Luckily for me the Cardiac Unit at Watford General mend broken hearts. Bev, Lizzy, Georgia and Ollie have also been fantastic in their support.
