Story

Gary and his 3 children (Lauryn Marie aged 17, Ella aged 10 and Charlee aged 8) have been thrown into simply one of the hardest and most challenging situations as tragedy struck this wonderful family in ways we could never have imagined.

While everyone has been incredibly strong and so many of our friends, family and loved ones have been helping, supporting and doing anything they can, we have been contacted by so many wonderful people about how else help can be offered including many offering and understanding the financial burden at this time... so this page has been set up for anyone who would want to donate anything, as little as a message of support and £1 or a little more if you can, it all will go directly to the family... we may even do some fundraisers to support this page over the next few months as we know the ongoing expenses will be ever changing.

(L-R, Gary, Charlee, Lauryn, Ella and Lisa)

Gary is just 35 years old and has always been a fit and healthy guy, so it was a huge shock being diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. He has had surgery to remove a stage 4 tumour and was recovering well while dealing with daily pain but unfortunalty became jaundice and was diagnosed with a blocked duct in his gallbladder.

Once more he was admitted to hospital and underwent another surgery to fit a stent which should have resolved many of his extra battles, however immediatly after this surgery he was in extreme pain and was kept in for 3 weeks while the doctors tried to treat a severe and possibly sepsis infection. It was during this time devestatingly Gary was told he wouldnt be out to take the girls to scotland for their mums funeral. A heartbreaking blow for him, Lauryn, Ella and Charlee.

He has continued to amaze everyone with his strength and positive attitude but he’s fighting pain daily and while waiting for the results of a PET scan to reveal the extent of the Cancers spread the stent issues have delayed the start of intensive chemotherapy.

The girls mum, Lisa Marie sadly and suddenly passed away as she took her own life on the 18th August which has shaken everyone who knew her, breaking the hearts of her loving family and children. The loss will remain unbearable but she would be so proud of her family for everything they are doing for the girls and Gary.

Gary Ames

Gary is quite simply an amazing man.

Gary became unwell in April 2019 and over the course of May, June and July was admitted and discharged from hospital many times, during which he couldn't eat or drink and was loosing weight rapidly, he was unable to work much while being investigated for Crohn's disease. Unfortunately it was revealed on the 14th August Gary did in fact have Bowel Cancer and a large tumour was removed on the 15th August at East Surrey Hospital.

He had a hemicolectomy and double bowel ileocolostomy which we are hoping is a 6 month temporary bag and he also had the omental biopsy for the bowel cancer and started his recovery with the amazing staff, doctors and surgeons by his side at the Hospital.

4 weeks later Gary met with his specialists for the histology results of his operation and unfortunately revealed that his tumour was a more aggressive Cancer than first hoped at stage 4 and the devastating news some cells had spread but as yet we dont know how far. He is due to undergo intensive chemotherapy regardless and it will leave him tired and unwell, even more so unable to work to provide financially for himself and the girls, but for him it will also hold him back from doing things as a family.

Gary is now faced with not only this, but after the sudden death of his ex-partner Lisa the loving mother to the 3 girls . needs to move to re-home themselves from his single bed flat to a house for them all, but a private rented home as the usual process for a council house they have said could take years.

He’s doing all of this while continuing to raise his girls as the incredible father he is and be a pillar of support for so many people

Lisa Marie

Lisa Marie was the mother to Lauryn, Ella and Charlee and loved them with every ounce of her soul. Her eyes would light up when they smiled, her cheeks would dimple when she laughed at them playing or fighting.

Lisa originally from Scotland was a loud, proud and brave woman, she was studying sports management and found a love in running taking her to complete one her greatest achievements - running the Brighton half marathon.

Even though Lisa battled with depression over many years, she fought strongly for her girls and they will be reminded of this for the rest of their lives. Lisa sadly lost her fight with depression and on the 18th August and devastatingly took her own life. She passed away in the intensive care unit in East Surrey Hospital surrounded by many people who loved her.

Thank You

Your donations will go to Gary and the girls to use any way they can to help from practically supporting financially with bills, food, the new house, but any help for Gary while he undergoes treatment and is unable to work.

We also would love gary to use some money to make sure they have some good times, a day out, a meal out, some money to help towards some new clothes or some new furniture for their new home , a weekend away. Gary and the girls will practically need the money but they deserve to use some on happiness too.

We just hope any donations help alleviate some worry, help them smile and most of all support them during this life changing situation.
