Story

Can you help us save our society?

Based in the North East, Gateshead Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society was founded in 1905 and is one of the oldest performing groups in England.

WE ARE AT PRESENT FIGHTING FOR OUR LIVES

The Junior Society is hoping to perform ‘Peter Pan The Musical’ in October 2017 but as with every show it takes money to put on productions like this, so this is where your help is needed.

To keep this society going we need to raise £8000. You may be thinking that this is a lot of money to raise, however, hall hire alone is approximately £2500. Despite our significant attempts to fundraise we are still struggling to keep on top of rising costs.

It is hard to believe that it was back in 1991 when a few of the committee had the vision to start a Junior Section. We have produced many wonderful shows over the years. In fact, our last show (The Wizard of Oz) was recently been nominated for three awards by The National Operatic & Dramatic Association.

It’s great fun and the children love it and it’s something that stays with them for the rest of their lives, we have even lost some of our most talented youngsters to the West End professional stage. This is another reason why we want to keep the Society going as we have a lot of young talent and we want to be able to continue to give them the platform to shine

This year we have a new and exciting production team that includes three very talented youngsters (Laura Bonello, Ross Norman and Andrew Stewart) who have all studied Music / Drama / Dance, while three of the senior committee have a total of 140 years service to the Society. Collectively they realise that children are the future and would like to think the Society can flourish for generations to come.

Over the years they have taken great pleasure from witnessing hundreds of children enjoying performing, making new friends, growing as people and developing new talents. This makes their hard work and dedication to the society all the more worthwhile. The children’s enjoyment is clear to see and it would be such a shame to see the Society fold and their talents go to waste.

For an Amateur Society £8000 is a lot to raise but with YOUR help and support we CAN do it!

We would greatly appreciate any donations, so we can keep the Society and the children performing for many more successful years to come.
