Story
Shree Jalaram Mandir (Greenford, UK) has not only been a place of worship for devotees, but also has enabled amazing community based service.
For its regular collection made for Greenford British Legion, Mandir (Temple) was invited to take part during Remembrance Day Parade & honoured by being invited to lay a wreath for our fallen soldiers.
Mandir has raised significant sums for local charities like St. Luke's Hospice, Diabetes UK & BHF.
Mandir has been serving food to over 250 homeless & needy in Central London area, over 2 days a week for the past 4 years. It also contributes food ration to Harrow Foodbank & Rickmansworth Foodbank.
Since 2010, temple offers 'Sadavrat' which means free kitchen serving lunch 'Prasad' (offering) 7 days a week to all attendees irrespective of caste, class, colour or creed. Many elderly & needy rely on this daily meal. Including Thursday's dinner, temple serves food to 3000 attendees each week!
Since August 2012, it has joined hands with Shivananda Mission Virnagar Hospital to give Gift of Sight to the needy people of Gujarat (India). To this day, 5336 Cataract operations have been done with 'intraocular' lens implant. Nearly 28k patients have received treatment for minor eye ailments from a total of 36.5k patients seen in 181 Eye Camps. Water coolers have been installed too across 12 schools (2011) in rural India giving 3000 children access of cool filtered water.
As you can see, Shree Jalaram Mandir has been a force of good & has helped those in need. Currently, the old temple has been demolished to make way for a temple big enough to serve even more. A great deal of fundraising has been undertaken in aid of building the new Temple & Community Centre at the same site.
On Sunday 16th Oct 2016, other devotees & I are going to walk 6km. I am 'Walker' No.102. We hope to raise much needed funds & awareness about this fantastic organisation.
Please donate generously for this wonderful charity (No.1104605)
