Story

In the spring of 2018 our son Orion was diagnosed with craniosynostosis, a condition in which some of the bones in the skull fuse too early. This meant that he needed corrective surgery to allow more space for his brain to grow and to avoid some serious issues later in his life.

My wife and I found ourselves in the difficult position of having to choose whether to go ahead knowing that either way there were serious risks involved. It is not a place that we would like to be in ever again.

But it is done now.

The surgery went brilliantly and despite a couple of blips while still in hospital we were home a week later and our little man has recovered well.

I cannot stop marvelling at the amazing skills of the surgeons and the expertise of all the medical team involved. And their bravery to take responsibility over someone else's life! And the fact that this is available to us just because we pay taxes. All hail the NHS!

We are also extremely grateful for the Ronald McDonald House for providing us with free accommodation while we stayed in hospital three hours away from home. We did not even know this was an option at first but it made it so much easier for us, one less thing to worry about.

We are glad to be on the other side of the surgery now and are getting back to normal family life.

Onwards and upwards!

This whole experience has shown us what really matters and that is human kindness. Which is why I want to raise enough money to help 100 families stay close to their sick children through the Ronald McDonald House Charities. You can help me achieve this goal!

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. ❤

I will also be attempting a 100km walk in August
