I'm raising £1000 to Save a Gay Ghanaian Man from Persecution

Story

I'm raising £1,000 for an LGBTQ+ project for Mohammed, a 19 year old Gay Ghanaian man who is seeking refuge and further education outside of his home country to escape persecution and homophobic hate crimes. His life is in danger and for this reason, he is covering his face in the public pictures. I can confirm myself that I have spoken with him and his case is urgent.

This is what Mohammed asked me to say:

“l've always felt different. I never truly fit in with other boys. I always found feminine behaviour more natural to me. Of course people made fun of me but never in a physically violent way until recently. I kept to myself my whole life and the one time I opened up to a friend he sold me out. Suddenly everyone I knew didn't want me around because I had a different sexuality. Then it got worse after the government of my country decided to make the LGBTQ illegal. people went from simply avoiding me to beating me up for displaying feminine behaviour. The reason I want fundraising is so I can move to a more tolerant country were I can be myself without any mockery or domestic abuse. My goals is to complete my tertiary education and live a fulfilling life. I tried to apply to the rainbow railroad asylum twice but without luck, so now I’m reaching for support to start my journey out of this country.”
