Story

Two of GB Boxing’s coaches, Gary Hale (Podium Coach) and Mally Maciver (Performance Coach) will lead a special ‘Box-a-Thon’ fundraiser on Wednesday 26th November 2025 when they aim to complete 50 three-minute rounds on the boxing bag to raise money for GB Boxing’s charity partners Roundabout and Sheffield Mind.

Hale and Maciver will be joined by a host of special guests, including Tokyo Olympic gold medallists, Lauren Price and Galal Yafai, Olympic bronze medallist and current GB Boxing consultant coach Richie Woodhall, members of the current GB Boxing squad, and service users from both charities who will all be taking a turn on the bags.

The Box-a-Thon is being organised to raise funds and awareness for Roundabout and Sheffield Mind, which have been GB Boxing’s community partners since August 2024. Roundabout, works to prevent youth homelessness in South Yorkshire and Sheffield Mind provides mental health support and wellbeing services across the city.

Gary Hale said: “We wanted to do something that would not only test us physically but also bring the GB Boxing and local community together for two amazing causes. Roundabout and Sheffield Mind do incredible work supporting people in difficult circumstances, and we’re proud to be doing our bit to help.

:Fifty rounds is not a small challenge, but it’s nothing compared to what some people face in their daily lives. We’re hoping to raise as much money as possible and show that the boxing community always steps up to support those in need.”

The box-a-thon will begin in the afternoon, with Gary and Malcolm leading the way with guest participants rotating throughout the 50 rounds to keep the action going from the first bell to the last.

Sheffield Mind has been providing mental health services to people in Sheffield for more than 40 years and aims to improve wellbeing by providing support and advice to anyone experiencing a mental health problem. It’s work is client centred and aims to put users at the heart of everything. It also provides a range of accessible services designed to meet local need and works in partnership with groups and communities which are failing to engage with traditional mental health services.

Roundabout is South Yorkshire’s leading youth homelessness charity, dedicated to supporting 16 to 25-year-olds who are homeless or at risk of homelessness across Sheffield and Rotherham.

The charity supports over 380 young people every day, Roundabout recognises that each person’s journey into homelessness is unique and that while some may simply require support during a tough time, many others may have sadly experienced childhood trauma. By nurturing their resilience and identifying their skills, Roundabout aims to give young people the opportunity for a brighter, more stable future.
