    Story

What will the acreage be used for?

We have many dreams for these rolling acres and I want to share with you so that you, also, can dream with us of the future of The Gem Foundation Village.

We dream of homes for our precious Gems to grow and thrive. We dream of the first completely wheelchair accessible village in Uganda. One where our Gems can easily move from here to there simply because there will be sidewalks, paths and complete access. A home where our Gems can easily enter a handicap accessible bathroom.

We currently are sending 4 of our gems to outside schools. Because of our Gems individual needs the current schools are not designed for our Gems so we dream of a school not only for our Gems but also for the community children to attend. An inclusive special needs school. A class specifically designed for each one of our Gems many needs. A school where no Gem is ever left behind or forgotten. Where Bethany can walk to school with her walker and learn to be more independent.

We dream of homes of special needs Gems living as families where each home is designed for each Gems individual needs. Currently our home cares for 27 Gems all in one building. Yet we dream of more space with easy access for wheelchairs, walkers and those trying hard to walk! A place where each can easily reach the dining room. A kitchen that is built to accommodate Gems learning life skills who then can help prepare meals. A place where we can sit around the table as a family of Gems.

We dream of raised garden beds for our Gems to learn the beauty of growing and agriculture. A place where our Gems will be able to feel dirt between their own fingers, see gorgeous East African flowers grow and breath in fresh, clean air.

We long for a specific spot to stroll through or sit. A place to grieve, celebrate, reflect, pray and remember each of our Gems: Arthur, Jason, Elisha, Moe and Samuel. A special place with a dedicated flower garden, big trees, many benches and even picnic tables. We dream of a Memorial Garden where someday each Gem will be able to be laid to rest. A place to celebrate the lives of our boys who are now in heaven. We are a family and this is something we deeply long for and is also very cultural to Uganda.

We have a big dream and it doesn't stop there but are just a few of the things we dream of using this land for. Will you please consider praying with us to be a part of helping us call this beautiful place our forever home for our Gems?!
