    Story

I have made links with a small community upon a council estate in Hull, where the local people volunteer their time to put their hearts and souls into the community hub. They operate a gym, a kids club, karate club, and try to offer the premises to anyone that wishes to use their facility. They are passionate about their setting becoming a diverse mix of activities. I first met the two inspiring ladies at a "Multicultural day" they held at the hub. They provided home cooked African foods, and provided activities throughout the day to the whole community. These ladies spent over 10 hours, at the event they held, with setting up and clearing away, monitoring all activities and stalls along with providing food and beverages all day. (For free) I approached the ladies whilst attending their event and asked if I could deliver a coffee morning at the hub to provide self-employment opportunities as this is my line of work. Through talking to them and the committee I have learnt they have had a tough time, and people have left the books in a mess before they took over. They need to raise around a £1000 to pay off the debts to then re-apply for their charity status. Once they achieve their charity status I am willing to help them source funding to run their kids club every evening. I have previous experience of being a sole trader of my own after school club and would be passionate to give my time to help them make a sustainable business for their community and to keep the children occupied. Meeting with these people, I can honestly say I have never meet such passionate people who want to do so good for their community and that give up their own time, with the chair of the committee recovering from cancer and still fitting 4 times a week hospital visits around the time spent at the hub, makes me more passionate about trying to do everything I can to help them out of this dark hole to bring the hub back to light!

We plan to continue with fundraising days in the meantime.
