Story

The Gems142 - Hiking for our Heroes

As a proud B-Corp, Cornish Gems is passionate about supporting the wellbeing of its people and Cornish communities.

That's why, from 1st to 7th April, our company's owners and founders - Nadia and Tom Macer-Wright - will be leading the Gems142, hiking some 142 miles along the north Cornwall stretch of the South West Coast Path, to raise funds for the installation of a solar powered sound bench at the RCHT Treliske Hospital in Truro, Cornwall.

The pioneering sound art installation from Justin Wiggan at EchoPoint will provide patients and staff with a sonic safe space, where a carefully curated and structured soundscape is played to help listeners redirect negative emotions when they are in crisis, and enter a state of calm.

Nadia, founder of Cornish Gems, says:

At Cornish Gems, we strive to keep the well-being of our people and communities at our hearts, which is why it seemed only natural to raise money to support staff and patient wellbeing, at our local hospital, Treliske. In today’s fast paced world - and even more so when times are tough - it’s incredibly important to find a safe space in which to breathe, take stock, and reset. We want to help patients and staff to take a moment to reduce their anxiety levels, build their resilience, and ultimately use mindfulness tools to help their healing process.

Named the Gems 142 by the 100-strong Cornish Gems team, the 142-mile trek will take Nadia and Tom from Welcombe Bay to Land’s End on the South West Coast Path, with several stops along the way to meet local partners, suppliers, property owners and community members.

Anyone who wishes to join Nadia and Tom for part or all of the hike are welcome - please find out more via the Cornish Gems website .

Thank you for reading our Crowdfunder page, in support of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. Any donation, however big or small, towards what will be a brilliant resource for patient and staff wellbeing at Treliske Hospital is very much appreciated - thank you in advance for your support.
