Story
I'm raising £1,000 for a school in Zimbabwe through a variety of events including by running a 10km in London on March 1st; I have mild asthma and have never ran properly before so this should be quite the challenge. I hoped to do a half marathon but since I'm not 17 I couldn't; still, 10 kilometres is hard enough...
To give more details, Bunina Primary School was set up in some old farm buildings in a small village in the bush, approx. 45 kms from Gweru in Zimbabwe's midlands. What started as a small school teaching from cold drafty farm buildings has grown and grown as members of the local villages learn that there is an option to educate their children here. Some walk for many miles to get to school every day. Bunina's student numbers have massively outgrown its modest farm building classrooms, and hence there is a desperate need for more space, and proper classroom furniture so that the children can learn and the staff can teach effectively. At the moment, the school has been forced to operate a morning session and afternoon session so that as many students as possible can fit into the space and receive an education.
My school's goal is to raise £52,000 to finish building a classroom block and to finish building the staff accommodation so that teachers and trainee teachers have a space to sleep. The classroom block would allow for another 90 students to be catered for. In addition to this, any funds raised will be used to support the development of the allotment including the addition of a second water tank so that the pupils and staff can be fed. Additionally, there will be a donation to the DART anti-poaching team (HOME - DART Wildlife Rescue) that operate in Zimbabwe.
As a small part of this effort, I am doing the 10km, running a pinball tournament and hopefully putting on some sort of magic or music related performance to try and reach my individual and our total goal.
