On the 3rd December I am attempting to run the 45 mile Dorset Coastal Ultramarathon along the Jurassic Coast. This is far further than I have ever run before and is almost entirely made up of hills - overall the race consists of over 8000ft of ascent and the same back down. Starting at 8am from Lulworth Cove I am hoping to finish in around 10-12 hours if my body and mind have the capacity to push through!
I am running the race in aid of the Osa Wildlife Sanctuary in Costa Rica. The Sanctuary is committed to providing wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release of orphaned, injured, or displaced animals indigenous to the Southern Pacific zone of Costa Rica. Since its inception almost 20 years ago, they have worked with over 45 different species of birds, mammals and sea turtles. Should you wish to find out more the Sanctuary's website is: https://www.osawildlife.org
I visited the Sanctuary a number of times over the Summer while working at a Lodge a few beaches down the coast. It is one of the most incredible places I have ever been to and the selflessness of the staff where the animals are concerned has to be seen to be believed. I can assure that any donations to the cause are dearly appreciated however small and will go entirely to the benefit of the animals in their care and conservation of the surrounding areas.
(The picture above is of Rosie, one of the endangered Geoffroy's spider monkeys - an example of the Sanctuary's many success stories.)
