    Story

On Tuesday 22nd October 2019 at 9.57am we welcomed our beautiful baby boy, George Christopher O’Brien, into the world. Due to complications he was transferred to the PICU ward at Manchester Children’s Hospital. We then spent the next 9 days at his bed side captivated by him, spending precious time together as a new family and hoping and praying he would be able to come home with us. At just 8 days old, on 30th October our gorgeous George passed away. Saying goodbye to him was the hardest moment we’ll ever go through but it was filled with so much love. Our time with George was short but he made a huge impact on our lives. He taught us so much and we have so many special memories of our time together.

Almost 12 months have passed since George’s birth. We wonder how we’ve managed to survive without him but know he’ll always be with us as we continue to do things in his memory. To celebrate his 1st Birthday, Chris and some family and friends are running a half marathon at Tatton Park on Sunday 8th November. We hope to be able to raise money in George’s name for the PICU ward at Manchester Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.

We will forever be grateful for the love and care that the PICU team gave to our son and to us through everything, especially during the most difficult days. The Nurses and Doctors were truly incredible and without them we would not have the wonderful memories that we cherish so much.

Ronald Macdonald House also provided us with a room at the hospital where we could stay close to George, allowing us to spend so much more time together.

When faced with the unimaginable, the care and support they provide is so important. We hope the money we raise will mean more children and families receive the same.

Unfortunately, due to COVID it’s possible that the run at Tatton may not be allowed to go ahead. If this is the case, we will choose our own safe route so we can still complete the half marathon for George.

We are so grateful for all the support from our family and friends, and for everyone wanting to take part in the run or support on the day, as we remember and celebrate our son.

Happy 1st Birthday George. We miss you, every day we think of you and how different it would be with you here. We’ll never forget the days we spent together and will keep you with us always.

We love you forever and always,

    Mummy and Daddy

    Alison and Chris
