I've raised £500 to support The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and the Sea Cadets

A dummy carrying a dummy for 10 miles!!!!!
A friend of mine is a phenomenal fundraiser, and has done plenty of runs, climbs and hikes with various anchors and dummies in the past. I offered to partake in such an event alongside him, something I will no doubt come to regret half way through. What better way to celebrate 10 years in the Royal Navy.
We have chosen The Great South Run, a relatively flat circuit, which is a 10 Mile loop around Portsmouth and Southsea. We shall be doing it a bit differently however, as we shall each be carrying a 'Ruth Lee Ltd' Manikin. These manikins weigh 40kg when dry, and 70kg when wet, so we are hoping for good weather!
I have chosen two charities to raise funds for. One based around work, and one based on me:
The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity do excellent work for veterans, current service personnel and their families alike. Although I haven't needed them personally, I know they are there if I ever do; and I have seen what good work they do and how much of an impact a few phone calls to these guys can make.
TS Weston Sea Cadets is where I spent many of my younger years developing new skills and learning about the world. Without TS Weston, I probably would never have joined the Royal Navy, or met my amazing wife Rachael. I owe a lot to the unit, so I would love this opportunity to raise some funds for the team, the kids, and their bright futures.
I have the manikin ready to go, so anybody that would like to see/feel/hold it is more than welcome to, you'll soon see what sort of challenge this is.
I look forward updating you between now and the run. Me and the manikin will be doing lots together. I have set a target of £500, but I have no idea what to expect, so please don't feel pressured. Just leave a like, a comment, or give me a share, anything and everything helps.
After race day (20/10/19), I shall be handing cheques over to each charity personally; and will share the totals for each. Can't wait!
Thank you,
George.
