    Story

A dummy carrying a dummy for 10 miles!!!!!

A friend of mine is a phenomenal fundraiser, and has done plenty of runs, climbs and hikes with various anchors and dummies in the past. I offered to partake in such an event alongside him, something I will no doubt come to regret half way through. What better way to celebrate 10 years in the Royal Navy.

We have chosen The Great South Run, a relatively flat circuit, which is a 10 Mile loop around Portsmouth and Southsea. We shall be doing it a bit differently however, as we shall each be carrying a 'Ruth Lee Ltd' Manikin. These manikins weigh 40kg when dry, and 70kg when wet, so we are hoping for good weather!

I have chosen two charities to raise funds for. One based around work, and one based on me:

The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity do excellent work for veterans, current service personnel and their families alike. Although I haven't needed them personally, I know they are there if I ever do; and I have seen what good work they do and how much of an impact a few phone calls to these guys can make.

TS Weston Sea Cadets is where I spent many of my younger years developing new skills and learning about the world. Without TS Weston, I probably would never have joined the Royal Navy, or met my amazing wife Rachael. I owe a lot to the unit, so I would love this opportunity to raise some funds for the team, the kids, and their bright futures.

I have the manikin ready to go, so anybody that would like to see/feel/hold it is more than welcome to, you'll soon see what sort of challenge this is.

I look forward updating you between now and the run. Me and the manikin will be doing lots together. I have set a target of £500, but I have no idea what to expect, so please don't feel pressured. Just leave a like, a comment, or give me a share, anything and everything helps.

After race day (20/10/19), I shall be handing cheques over to each charity personally; and will share the totals for each. Can't wait!

    Thank you,
    George.

Bit of a delay updating this, but I have completed smashed the Great South run with Martina! I can't thank everyone enough for your kind donations, I had no idea I would reach such a huge amount!!! I am taking part in a Christmas Day Dip (swim) with Weston RNLI station as part of the deal if I hit £650. I will endeavour to make your donation worth it, and this pushed me over that edge. Still aching from this run and a week on exercise with work, but getting there now, blisters have nearly gone 🙈 Thank you so much guys, I really appreciate it

Well, as we were all in one place, it would be rude not to do something. So we went for a hearty breakfast and visited the beach of Lee-on-Solent. Keep an eye out for us during The Great South Run, exactly 1 week to go! This is how we shall be dressed. Smashed my initial target of £250! Thank you so much to all of you that have supported me. I am currently on £415! So now I really want to achieve that special £500 mark. What an achievement that would be by us all. Please put a small donation in, £2 here and there will soon add up 💰

Last weekend me and Martina went been to hockey. Reflecting on a solid 2-0 win. Martina was the super sub, but as we were playing strongly, she wasn't required on the pitch this week, she took more of a cheerleading role instead. Looking forward to smashing more benchmarks in my fundraiser challenge, and hoping I survive my 10 mile ordeal of carrying the awkward Martina 🤞 Thanks so much guys. As usual, more posts and social media spamming to come, I hope you are enjoying them so far. Drop me some ideas if you have any. Many thanks
