Story

Since Izzy passed we have had hundreds of requests from people who would like to contribute towards proceedings. This page is the best way for that to be done. The money raised will go towards the funeral costs, with anything left over going to charities focusing on Melanoma (the cancer which Izzy battled against). It is probably best for me to tell you about Izzy and her journey, for those who don’t know.

In 2018 Izzy was diagnosed with Stage 1 Melanoma, after spotting a small and unusual mole that appeared on her back. It was successfully treated and removed. Within the year she was then given the ‘all-clear’. Fast forward a few years, to 2021, when Izzy felt unwell. She had a feeling she knew wasn’t right and within days lumps appeared around her body. Acting quickly, she got in contact with her GP and was booked in for some more tests. Sadly, the biopsy for this latest set of irregularities revealed Melanoma had returned- Stage 4 Melanoma. Over the next 2 years Izzy was treated as an outpatient. At the Royal Surrey in Guildford and the Royal Marsden in Sutton, where she underwent specialist radiotherapy.

Initially, Izzy reacted well to the treatment and in the areas where the cancer was present, we started to see it reducing. At the start of the process the consultant had told us we needed to continue to see this level of reduction for 18months. We continued the journey with her treatment, with regular consultations with her consultant. However, during this period cancer reoccurred. Izzy was treated with the Cyberknife system, a state of the art robotic device used for specialist radiotherapy. This proved partly successful.

At the beginning of this year Izzy started feeling unwell again, having similar feelings she felt pre-diagnosis. After new scans, we found out that the tumours had returned, but this time far more aggressively. Thus needing more intense treatment. In February, she went to Royal Marsden for intense radiotherapy. As a result of the treatment Izzy felt very unwell and was admitted to hospital. It was in this time we found out the severity of the situation. News was utterly devastating but we held onto hope for improvement.

The consultant said we needed to wait for at least eight weeks to give the treatment the best chance of success. Unfortunately, we didn’t have eight weeks. We lost Izzy five weeks later.

In her final weeks in the hospital she was surrounded by love and support. Myself, her mum and dad, Freya and Chris, were with her, by her side 24/7, with close friends and family visiting when she felt able. Izzy was courageous, brave, beautiful, and stubborn, and fought right until the end. She did not complain and took everything in her stride. She remained ever feisty but with her heart filled with love and optimism.

As a family, we are heartbroken and still processing this immense loss and the void she has left in our lives. Anyone who met Izzy would tell you just how special she was. With that in mind, we have set this page to give her the sending-off she so deserves . To start to build and grow her legacy- starting with supporting Melanoma charities. Thank you for all the love and support over the past few months, especially to those of you who have been with us on this journey from the beginning. Huge love to all and 'in the words of Iz':

Live the life you love.
