Story

Fundraising a Once In a Life-time Experience.

I am appealing for help to fund an expedition to the amazing Shamwari Game Reserve on the southern coast of South Africa. I hope to take part in and understand some of the fantastic work that goes on there, trying to preserve just a small part of the majestic beauty of South Africa's countryside, for the benefit of the diverse range of people and animals that call it home.

Each year Kesgrave Sixth form gives students the unique opportunity to undertake conservation work on one of the world's leading reserves, making a lasting difference to the local wildlife through a variety of activities including tracking animals, studying behaviour and working with re-homing charities. The trip also aims to make a long-term impact on the livelihoods of the surrounding community. In the past this has included rebuilding a recreational ground or planting a community garden, initiatives designed not to be "here today, gone tomorrow" but projects that make a real difference to people's lives.

As you can imagine, the cost of this once in a life time opportunity, giving ordinary young people like me a chance do something meaningful out there, is significant. Half of the challenge of the trip is in raising the money necessary to fly halfway around the world and complete the expedition. Over the next sixteen months I also plan to fundraise through a part-time job, attending local fetes and any other events where I can raise funds. Any donations made would be greatly appreciated and you could be assured that your contribution would make a tangible difference to the lives of the people and animals of South Africa.

Thank you.
