Story

73km for 73 bags of chemotherapy

Hi everyone,

I want to share the story of my friend, Bronwyn Sumption, who has been bravely fighting a rare and aggressive type of blood cancer since May 2023. After being thought to be in remission in October 2023, Bronwyn received the devastating news that the cancer had returned in the form of a 6cm brain tumour.

The cancer that Bronwyn is fighting is stage 3a primary mediastinal B-cell non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, known as PMBCL.

On top of dealing with the gravity of her cancer diagnosis and treatment, Bronwyn has had to cope with the hugely stressful financial insecurity caused by not being able to work for over a year.

This journey has been incredibly tough for Bronwyn, but her resilience and strength has been nothing short of inspiring. She has undergone 73 bags of chemotherapy during her treatment, each one a testament to her courage and determination.

To support Bronwyn and raise awareness about her fight, I have decided to run 73 kilometres – one kilometre for each bag of chemotherapy she endured. This challenge is not just a physical and mental test for me but more importantly honour Bronwyn's unwavering spirit and to rally support for her battle.

The run will take place on the 2nd of February between 6am and 6pm, along a 5mile out-and-back route along the Crammond Sea front. The route should enable as many people as possible to come along and run, cycle, support and cheer me on!

How you can help?

Donate: Your generous donations will help us reach our £3000 goal. Every pound counts and brings us one step closer to providing Bronwyn with the support she needs.

Share: Spread the word by sharing this page with your friends, family, and social networks. The more people who know about Bronwyn's story, the greater the support we can gather.

Help save lives: Register to join the stem cell registry or join us on the day to get registered.

Join the Run: Consider joining me for a portion of the 73 kilometers-on foot or bicycle. Let’s make this a community effort and show Bronwyn that she is not alone in this fight.

Be informed: Bronwyn’s main objective is to create awareness around blood cancer, the treatments, and the life-saving organisations such as DKMS. More information will follow in the updates.

The funds raised will go directly towards helping Bronwyn with her everyday living expenses and any other support she needs during this challenging time. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in Bronwyn's life.
