Story
Hi my name is George!
I love going to my school and playing with all my friends. I love swimming, playing boccia and archery and having tickles and cuddles the best. I also love my TV shows especially catchphrase and the Great British Bake Off.
I was born 7 weeks earlier than I should have been at 33 weeks. My mum’s waters broke at 29 weeks and so we had to go in and out of hospital a lot to be monitored and looked after. When I was born I was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for 3 weeks, I wasn’t very well and had lots of medicines and tests.
When I was about 6 months old mum and dad realised that I wasn’t developing as quickly as I should be. I couldn’t sit up and when I got a bit older I couldn’t move, crawl or pull myself up like other babies can. I had an MRI scan when I was 1 and it showed I had a brain injury called Cerebral Palsy, this has meant that I can’t walk and caused developmental delays, sight problems and problems with using my hands. I also sometime have seizures and lots of problems sleeping and can find it hard to communicate with others.
Mum and Dad want me to continue to have special therapies to help my mobility. Sometimes I wear a special therasuit that I can wear with bungee cords attached to a cage that looks like a spider web. This helps me to stay upright and works all my muscles really well. The suit was originally developed for spacemen!
The treatment costs a lot of money but with the kindness of donations from my family, friends and even people who don’t know me, my Mum and dad have been able to pay for blocks of sessions. Since starting specialist my special therapy, I have made some great improvements, my head control is really good and I have started to take some independent steps on the treadmill. Lots of children who have had this therapy are able to stand up on their own or even walk!
If you can support me to reach my goals of sitting by myself, standing and maybe even walking I would be very grateful.
