Hi. Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. On the 17th July, I am off to Nairobi in Kenya for two weeks, volunteering in an orphanage.
I have a real affinity with children, having been a personal carer to a special needs child for the last 4 and a half years. The opportunity of helping less fortunate children in a challenging environment appeals to me as I am always looking to gain more life skills and experience different cultures.
I will be volunteering for a charity called Agape Volunteers, who do lots of great work throughout the whole of Africa. My time will be spent assisting younger children in the orphanage, reading stories, playing games and helping them develop. I will also be taking part in their IDP outreach trip. IDP stands for "internally displaced person" and these camps are a hangover from the 2007 election violence where thousands of people were made homeless.Agape Volunteers are one of the only full time aid organization operating in these areas. I will be taking part in their food outreach trip, where I will travel to the camp to distribute food and general supplies. Agape Volunteers are committed to continuing these outreach trips but is also investing in longer term solutions to the problem, which include the building of a school, completed in 2010 and a medical clinic, due for completion this year.
The money I raise will help fund my trip to Nairobi, and any extra I raise will be donated directly to Agape Volunteers.
