Weʼve raised £205 to teach sports to young people and children in Kenya

Funded on Wednesday, 1st March 2017

    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

I'm trying to raise money to participate in a volunteering programme in Nairobi for 5 weeks to teach sports to young people and children. The programme is run by Agape Volunteers, a non profit charitable organisation who have numerous established projects set up on the outskirts of Nairobi.

I believe that sport is a foundation of positive values that helps break down barriers and brings people closer together. Attributes that are especially important in the poorer parts of the world, like Kenya, where so many of the population, in particular the young population (nearly half is under 15 years of age) live in poverty and the escape that sport can provide is vital. However, due to a lack of teaching and equipment young people frequently aren't able to take part and that's my goal to help change.

The project I will be taking part in is based around the community aspects of sports, and is especially designed to give local youngsters a chance to do something enjoyable in the evenings. I will be spending my time in local schools and with local teams, helping them with sports training and also participating in the community workshop and outreach elements of the programme. All with the hope that I will be able to make a difference in their lives.

For this I would be grateful for donations of any kind. Donations of money will only help fund the £750 programme fee, which goes towards: donations to the placement, accommodation with a local 'host family' and a trip to help provide aid for internally displaced persons (IDP) among other things. Other fees, such as flights and jabs, will be paid for by myself. I would also be grateful to anyone who could donate any old football or sports equipment, such as unused boots of any size, which I will be taking with me to give to the young people. Please contact me if you have anything available and thank you for reading.
