Story
Why should you pay for me to fly to Israel? What's in it for you? Where's your reward?
Well, first of all, "Thank you" will be far too inadequate for any kindness you might show. But I'll say it anyway. "Thank you" for your time, "thank you" for your interest, and perhaps most of all, "Thank you" for passing on the information to someone else even if you are unable to help financially.
So what would this Crowdfunding be used for?
Earlier in 2016 I was at a 5 day residential course and was invited to apply for an intensive course in Israel at Yad Vashem. I held off applying until this year and have now been successful in my application. The main part of the course is very intensive, residential in Israel. The programme I'm going to be on with up to 25 other teachers is composed of a one-day introductory seminar, a 10-day visit to Yad Vashem in Israel and a follow-up weekend.
For so many years now I have been involved in teaching - sometimes a difficult profession, so often rewarding. As a teacher of Religious Studies I have often led lessons about the Shoah - the Holcaust. My understanding of this awful time in history has come from years of reading, talking with Holocaust survivors, listening to testimony. I have also attended seminars & workshops, particularly those led by the Holocaust Education Trust.
The Trust will provide meals and accommodation for the duration of the course. Participants are asked to cover the costs of their own travel to the seminar, to Israel and to the follow-up weekend in November. I also plan to buy materials and artifacts for use in the classroom.
So any funds raised will go directly on travel, including transfers & the concluding course in Leicester and teaching material. Simple as that.

6 years agoSo it's about a month 'til our day in London meeting each up, getting our last bits of information, pre-Israel training. Moving on towards the target, for which I am continually grateful, and I've been reading Elie Weisel's "Night" - a physically slim but emotionally huge memoir of his experiences aged 13 to around 15, in concentration camps, on death marches, and trying to settle into life after. I received our annual invitation from a local synagogue to bring students to their Holocaust Memorial Day workshops - signed up straight away!

Gerry - i visited Yad Vashem and count it as one of the most moving experiences of my life. It is vital that we have teachers able to share and inform the next generations. Have a great trip. Mike
