Story

My amazingly strong and resilient Mum, Alison, has coped for years with ongoing, debilitating health issues, enduring incredible levels of pain and discomfort, not allowing it to get her down. Earlier this year she sought a second opinion on a bursa she had on her hip which she had been ‘managing’ at her initial surgeon's insistence until it became too inflamed and unbearable, leaving her immobile and unable to sleep. Her second opinion surgeon immediately booked her in for surgery as the MRI’s revealed that her body was rejecting the second metal on metal replacement (all paid for without medical insurance) as the parts were grinding on one another, producing metal filings. The bone was also degenerating together with the metal. This was encapsulated in a tumour within her hip cavity that was feeding the matter into the massive, external, painful bursa. Luckily it had not yet become infected.

Although she kept her private medical insurer in the loop throughout the process, they left it until the night before surgery to tell her they would not be covering the operation or aftercare, even though they had covered costs up until this point. Her incredible friends and family rallied around her, ensuring that the operation went ahead.

However, she now needs help getting back on her feet, literally and figuratively! Being a very private and proud woman she would never ask for help, so I am doing so on her behalf.

To raise funds I will be completing a number of events this year - Ride London, Chantilly Triathlon and Hever Castle Triathlon. I completed the Lough Cutra Triathlon in May. Please support me and in turn support my Mum. Thank you xx
