Story
We are raising funds to cover Lydia's expenses associated with attending the World Transplant Games in Malaga Spain 2017
Lydia was born with a progressive terminal liver disease in 2000. Lydia was first unwell at around 6 weeks old and we quickly realised that we were in for a long journey. Our days were filled with hospital trips and looking after her. For the first 6 years we did all we could to give her a normal life. In and out of hospital all the time. Lydia's condition meant she was perpetually itchy(often ripping her skin to eleviate the itching) and very tired. She barely had enough energy to play.
At the age of 6 she underwent a live-saving and life-enhancing transplant. This second chance at life has been grabbed firmly with both hands. Lydia instantly had more energy than she knew what to do with. She loves to ride her bike and loves to compete. On any given Sunday, she wants to be out on her bike, in particular, seeking out hills to ride up. She is currently taking great pleasure in making her dad suffer on a bike as he cant keep up anymore.
After a stunning performance the British Transplant Games this year in Liverpool, where she won both the Time-Trial and the Road Race in her age group, she has been selected to represent Great Britain in cycling. She will compete in the 5km time trial in the World Transplant Games 2017.
We need to raise funds to cover her flights and accommodation in Spain along with her training expenses and official GB kit. Along with accommodation and flights for her chaperone. The suggested cost per person is £1500.
We do not receive funding from the government or Lottery Funding like the Olympians do, hence we have to raise all the money ourselves.
We will be doing various fundraising events over the coming months to raise even more money.
Any surplus funds will go towards the Transplant Sport UK Managemen
