Story

Hi!
My name is Ikhine Peter Jolly, I'm from a small village in Edo State, Nigeria. I am a graduate of Microbiology, Covenant University, Ota Ogun State; just so you know I graduated in 2015. For my undergraduate project, I worked on how seemingly waste wood (saw dust) could help remedy the menace of oil spillage whilst keeping the ecosystem unaltered in a project titled "Effect of Saw dust on Soils contaminated with waste lubricating oil" published in an open access journal - IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science. Since graduation I've had to move from one unrelated and underpaid job to another in a bid to make ends meet. I guess only Nigerians can relate (with prevailing unemployment rates). With my eyes set on my dreams and aspirations, I've had cause to defer and ignore admission offers for Masters (from Aston University, Brunnel University, The City College of New York-CCNY and even Sheffield University) because of financial constraints. But these offers would have put me on the path of actualizing my dreams and aspirations hence, becoming a shadow of my true self. Its really sad, considering what I've had to do to survive these 5years of post graduation; I've been in the Construction Industry which is totally far from my discipline. The hassle here is real and only the strong willed can survive the pressure to sway from one's dreams and aspirations, cause I've seen people whose career paths have been altered owing to lack of viable environment and support systems needed for these dreams to thrive on and did settle for less or pursued other dreams just for the hustle and make ends meet. I for once, I'm a believer of assignment and purpose; and how fulfilling it is to be in the place of your calling. A wise man said 'Nothing can stand in the way of a determined man. Isaac Newton also has this to say; if we saw farther, it was because we stood on the shoulders of giants. No man has ever achieved anything worthwhile on his own. The World would be a better place, if we can contribute in our own small ways our own quota by lending a helping hand to persons whose will to succeed in their chosen career paths has become their burden, in the same vein we rise by raising people. My dream right from childhood was to become a Medical Doctor, and after all these years of graduation, the desire to study medicine is much stronger than it was when I was but a lad; one would think that with these number of years I would've come off it right? It is on this note, I crave your sponsorship and support to get me to Sheffield University this fall, 2020 for a Masters degree in MPH, International Development. This way I am one step close to realizing my dream of becoming a Health Professional in the coming years as I have plans to pursue a career in MD-PhD. Thank you for taking the time to read through my story and if you feel inspired by my story please donate and share; the same with your friends and family members, this way we'd achieve the set goals. Together we win big! Yes we can.
