Story

Welcome to our crowdfunding page! Our website is now live at getaccepted.org.uk!

We have secured the bulk of our funding needs for the first six months of operations. We've come to JustGiving to top up our funding to keep us going beyond this date. £500 will meet our fundraising needs until mid-2018. Donations will be used to fund a community space for clinics, website/email hosting, background checks on tutors and outreach. Additional donations be used to expand our services, reach and tutors. We have raised most of what we need so far from community funds and corporates, but have come to crowdfunding to raise the final amount.

Mission
Our mission is to improve the prospects of underprivileged students in south London. We're located in Brixton, where there is a high number of schools with low rates of student progression into further education.

In London, it's difficult to ignore the gulf between the ultra-rich and those struggling to make ends meet. We aim to target the difference in opportunity that exists between these two groups by supporting underprivileged young people with a desire to work hard to improve their career prospects. Sometimes hard work isn't enough, and you need a helping hand along the way; we want to help such students who don't have someone to turn to.
One of the main reasons I hear as to why people don't volunteer is restrictive working hours. GetAccepted tackles this issue by providing each volunteer with an email address, which they use to assist students remotely. In-person attendance at one session in Brixton is required, but there isn't a requirement beyond that.

Initiatives
We are starting with one initiative - walk-in university application (UCAS) clinics every 2-3 weeks in Brixton. Students who attend our sessions get some time with tutors to discuss their personal statement, and then have an ongoing email dialogue with tutors, who they can lean on for advice as they develop their UCAS applications. We have plans to expand by providing resume, cover letter, interview and assessment centre clinics, dependent on the success of UCAS clinics.

GetAccepted relies on volunteers. Here's some info about our tutors: http://getaccepted.org.uk/our-tutors
