Story

Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. In England, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (such as anxiety and depression) in any given week. Mental health problems are one of the main causes of the overall disease burden worldwide. 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75% by age 24. 10% of children and young people (aged 5-16 years) have a clinically diagnosable mental problem, yet 70% of children and adolescents who experience mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age.

Getahead is here to help.

In 2018 non-profit Getahead CIC launched a 24 hour mental health and wellbeing festival in London, and set out on a mission to positively impact a billion people in the next 25 years. This was a festival like no other, and paved the way for a whole new way to engage with mental health education, and a fresh new community to be created to help and support one another. As a purpose driven movement, Getaheads goals are to bring together people, organisations, brands and charities from within the health and wellbeing space to collaborate, support one another and ultimately amplify the message and awareness around mental health and wellbeing.

Through its brand pillars Health, Development, Fun and Training, the industries leading experts come together to educate through diverse and fun programmes and engaging content, to de stigmatise mental health and make it more accessible to all, at all levels.

World Mental Health Day is an opportunity for organisations such as Getahead to further amplify their message around the need for mental health support for everyone, we hope our 24 hour live bakeathon will help to bring our parters and extended community together to have fun and raise money for a great cause. You can learn more about Getahead on the website https://getahead.life/about/

As a not for profit Getahead relies on fundraising and financial support to allow its annual Festival and other community initiatives to happen, we are grateful for all donations and financial support given via this fundraising initiative.

Your support will help us finance our 2 day community 24 hour festival in 2023. Check out previous editions here;

We will also be supporting the launch of How Mental's amazing new App 'How Are We' - which launches on Monday 10th October, World Mental Health Day, 2022, How Are We is a free app that makes it easy to share feelings and track wellbeing over time.

It enables people to easily 'check-in' each day using a slider between two emojis (😢 <> 😁), simple enough for anyone! It then turns their feeling into a number from 0 to 100. These individual numbers are collated anonymously, aggregated and averaged to create a tangible, daily metric for the wellbeing of the world, for the first time; in real-time!

Being able to see how the world feels and know that others are sharing their feelings too, overcomes stigma and normalises the need for continuous self-expression; helping to create a greater sense of connection with ourselves and other people.
