Story
In April this year, my brother Grant’s life changed overnight. What started as a small sore on his back turned into Necrotising Fasciitis. He underwent emergency surgery, but during the operation he suffered a life-threatening complication and had to be resuscitated. He was in septic shock and critical. We truly didn’t think he would make it. He was placed on a ventilator and spent weeks in ICU fighting for his life.
In the days that followed, we learned he had a serious heart condition, which caused clots to travel to his brain, leading to a massive stroke. He has lost the use of the right side of his body and is blind in one eye.
Despite all this, Grant has fought with incredible strength and positivity. His skin graft has taken, though the donor site is struggling to heal. He has been back in hospital again battling another terrible UTI (a superbug), but once again he pulled through with determination and fight.
It has now been four months. He still faces major heart surgery, but first needs to regain enough strength through rehab.
To bring him home safely and continue his recovery, we’ve already managed to purchase a hospital-grade bed (R25,000) and, thankfully, his wheelchair was covered by medical insurance. But he urgently needs equipment to help him transfer safely from his bed to his chair — this alone costs around R25,000 (£1000)
These costs just don’t seem to end, but every bit of support helps. If you’re able to contribute — whether through a donation, sharing this message, or simply sending love and encouragement — we would be so deeply grateful. Your kindness truly means more than words can say.
