As some of my friends and family already know, I recently took on an old, battered racehorse. I have named him Bear. As you can see from my picture, Bear, once known as 'Mudhish' was a race winning horse. In fact, he was flat racing until the grand old age of 9! Sadly poor Bear suffered the same fate as many racers, being sold off to whoever would take him once no longer useful to the sport. ☹️
We don't really know where the poor boy ended up, but he was left to deteriorate and fall into a terrible state. He has horrendous gastric ulcers, primarily caused by the stress on his body from racing but worsened over the last couple of years due to becoming emaciated and full of worms. He has severe muscle wastage, plus his feet and teeth were also left to cause him severe pain and discomfort.
I have now rid him of the worms, bad teeth and poor hoof care, plus I have started treatment for his painful gastric issues. He really is the sweetest horse and absolutely loves to be around people who care for him. We have a very long road ahead of us though and he won't be back to full fitness and condition for quite some time. I am raising funds to continue with his recovery and get my poor Bear back into the beautiful healthy condition he deserves to be in. Any donations will be very gratefully received and spent on his recovery. I think it's awful that a horse used solely for the entertainment of humans for the best part of his life has been so easily discarded and left to suffer. I'm determined to make up for that now by giving him the best life possible for the rest of his days.
Hopefully one day I will be able to help out many more horses who find themselves in the same predicament as Bear. 😊 Xx
