Weʼve raised £660 to 'Gift A Massage' this winter to up to 80 carers in Bristol

Funded on Thursday, 1st February 2018

    Story

Chronically over-worked and under-acknowledged, Carers UK estimates 1 in 8 adults (around 6.5million people) offer long-term unpaid support to a loved one or friend. While this saves the economy £132 billion per year, a significant proportion of carers suffer mental and physical ill health as a direct consequence of the stress and physical demands of their caring role.

This Christmas and New Year, Wellbeing Rooms, in partnership with Rethink Mental Illness and Carers Support Centre, are inviting the general public to do something extra special and donate anything they like towards a much needed massage for a carer.

Massage can bring greater ease to tired muscles and calm the mind but most importantly, going for a treatment provides an opportunity for carers to take time out from their potentially stressful daily schedules and do something for themselves.

    What your money can do:

    - Every £20 raised funds a 30 minute treatment

    - Every £40 raised funds a full 60 minute treatment

    - If we hit our £1600 target 40-80 carers will receive the gift of massage.

Gifts can also be made in the Hamilton House shop and all donors will receive a complimentary, personalised Christmas card as thanks. N.B if you donate through this campaign page and want to receive a card through the post there's an additional cost of £1 for postage.

This campaign will launch on December 1st 2017 and run until January 31st 2018.

"I’ve been coming to Coexist for 4 years now, various things, mainly massage but I’m now on to reflexology with Hatty. I connected with Wellbeing through a carer’s group and the annual Carer’s Day Fayre because I care for my wife. As a carer I can get reduced rates and it’s been worth every penny! The treatments help me de-stress because looking after somebody with mental illness can be quite demanding at times. As a carer you do get your down periods and you can’t respond instantly to things – you’ve got to take yourself out of the situation and try to relax. I’ve found that once I’ve had the treatment it’s a benefit for me – it makes me calmer more relaxed and helps me deal with things when the pressure comes back. Every six weeks I come. It’s a great atmosphere here and I hope Hamilton House keeps going!

A good cause, people in the caring role can often neglect to look after them selves!
