Story
Thanks to everyone who has donated money so far - you've raised an amazing £6124.00. This week we have had an fantastic response to a cake stall run by a couple of our schools mums. They raised £533.00 THANK YOU.
The page is now back up again so you continue to support Mia and her family.
When Mia first came to Kirkbymoorside Primary School, she could run – really fast! In her seven years at the school she has gone from tearing around the playground with her friends to being dependent on a wheelchair.
Her current wheelchair can only be used on fairly level, firm surfaces, which is very restrictive and as a result, Mia is becoming increasingly isolated at school and at home.
She can't access PE lessons or sports activities or even just play on the field with her friends without a lot of support. At home, her family are limited as to where they can go and activities most children enjoy without thinking about - going to the beach, a walk through the woods, playing in the snow - are now beyond her capabilities. This places incredible strain on all the family: Lisa, her mum; Paul, her dad and Liam, her brother.
Recently Mia was able to try an all-terrain wheelchair from All Terrain Wheelchairs. In the hour or so she had on the trial afternoon, she was able to access areas on the school field she hadn't been able to go for years. She was able to move around with a group of friends without any adult intervention and go where she pleased. It would transform her life out of school too as Mia and her family could enjoy days out that haven’t been possible in recent years. The wheelchair is adaptable and can be used by Mia not only now but as an adult, giving her freedom and independence for many years to come.
To buy an All Terrain wheelchair for Mia will cost around £10,000. Please help us to give her back some independence and open the world back up again for Mia and her family.
