Story
I am cycling 500 miles around the North Coast of Scotland which includes Scotland's infamous climb the dreaded Bealach Na Ba with a climb of 626m in almost 6 miles, hitting a gradient of 20%. I will be doing this particular section at the end of an 100k day.
I am attempting this after minimal training, and it is certainly the biggest physical challenge I have ever attempted!
I am doing this to raise money for Sachibondu Health Centre which I was fortunate to visit in April this year. I spent 2 weeks delivering a package of education that I had prepared during the months leading up to my visit. This is an amazing project which I am proud to be part of. Following my visit I would especially like to raise funds towards staff uniforms, an autoclave for sterilising equipment, and future visits so we can continue to work alongside permanent staff to achieve our shared goals of improving safety for staff and patients in this rural part of Zambia.
THE PROJECT
Located in one remote corner of Africa, the Sachibondu Rural Health Centre is the only healthcare provision for tens of thousands of isolated people. The centre is being upgraded to a hospital to cope with demand. Our project is to deliver a 2- year programme that will provide training to all health workers at Sachibondu, with an emphasis on emergency medicine, improving the recognition and management of acutely unwell patients.
WHAT THE MONEY WILL FUND
Educational packages are created by staff and volunteers in Scotland, and also delivered on site in Zambia. We are fundraising to cover:
-Volunteers travel expenses
- Costs of educational materials (stationary, books)
- Basic medical equipment and instruments
Your help will make a difference and ensure more people in Zambia have access to high quality health care.
