    Story

    Hello,

I was just hoping people might be able to help my brother Joseph (25) to get a bebionic arm with a power function elbow.

Joseph has had a colourful life; he got encephalitis when he was 7 years old and subsequent white matter brain damage due to this, resulting in epileptic and behavioural issues until his 20's.

Things started looking up, his brain damage healed, Joseph became calmer, his seizures became less erratic, then he got cancer in his wrist.

The cancer was extremly rare and inoperable, known not to respond to chemotherapy or radiotherapy and was on the brink of spreading. The only option was an amputation of his arm a few inches above the elbow.

Joseph is resilient though, sewing his own buttons back on, one-handed, just months later, stunning the nurses at his problem solving skills and quick learning, and still beating everyone at pool.

In order to operate the bebionic hand, Joseph will need to undergo (and pay for) occupational therapy at a clinic in London. A small fee also gets taken off the total by Just Giving (5%) when the page closes.

The arm costs an estimated 41k, the therapy sessions costs £800 for 5 sessions and the just giving fee would come in at £2090, so i have set the goal to reflect this.

We are planning to do events aswell and will keep you posted on these in the comments below :)

Here’s a website link for the hand. If you want to see it in action, there's YouTube video links there as well.

I feel like it’s a big ask, but then I remind myself: I see causes here, Facebook, on TV, collection boxes, etc. the whole time for CancerResearch, how to prevent it, how to bring awareness, but not so many for the survivors, and I hear very little about the amputees.

This would have a real impact, quickly, if he got it. Simple things that get overlooked, like hanging up his washing, will become easy again.

If you can spare anything, it would make his day 😊

Thank you for all the donations and shares, your support has been amazing and you've all been so kind. We've raised nearly 11k so far which leaves 30k-ish I'm not 100% sure how this works but i'm going to set up a new page as this one runs out today (when its for an individual it only lasts 4 months); i'll post a link to the new page on facebook and hopefully here once it has been created :) Thank you again, every penny is a step closer to more independence for Joseph, hopefully it wont be long :) oh! and Happy New Year! ;D xxx
