Story
Dear all,
We all have been moved by the images of children facing the horrors of the war in G@z@. Mothers of newborns struggling to find milk to feed their babies and tragic stories about using feeding alternatives not fit for their immature guts.
As fellow humans we could not standby and watch, hence GINA came to exist, a collective effort to intervene and use science, technology and our networks of friends to reach out to the healthcare staff and mothers in G@z@ to support breastfeeding as the main modality of infant nutrition in the first year of life.
Breastfeeding saves lives, especially during wars and when the water supply is contaminated. Mothers' ability to produce high quality milk is not affected by what they eat, scientists say, but mothers need support to withstand the demanding journey of breastfeeding, GINA is there to do exactly that.
GINA was founded in the UK by Dr Reem Al Soufi, a mother and a doctor of Palestinian origin. GINA has lactation consultants and doctors working together to tackle challenges pragmatically and respond promptly to the mothers' and infants' needs. For GINA to deliver effective interventions we need your help to cover the cost of staffing our team in Gaza and purchasing items that mothers need to maintain their milk supply.
You can find more information about GINA at www.gina.org.uk and on our instagram account: GINA Instagram
Thank you for your support,
