The C.A.L.M Project - Community and Local Mental Health Project is a new community group which will be staffed by people who have LIVED experience of poor mental health. We want to raise awareness in our community of how to recognise poor mental health in others and support those in our community who feel isolated and alone unable to speak because of the fear of being stigmatised.
We are passionate about and committed to providing a place of calm somewhere to come and talk to others who will understand and not judge. We will be providing work workshops where people can write their story to share on our website to help others to understand more about living with poor mental health and Art activities to help people be creative. We are self funding at the moment as we need to prove a need for the service and give evidence of any positive effects it is having within the community. We just need funding to buy the art supplies and four laptops with word and a printer to get us started. We want to expand throughout West Yorkshire as we know from first hand experience that sharing your story with others can help build a support network for those who are alone in their daily struggles with depression anxiety and self harming to name a few. Family members will be welcome too I know from personal experience how alone you and helpless you can feel when you are supporting your loved one in the darkest times.
